Excursions: Fontainebleau

Bonjour tout le monde!
May 14, 2016
Today was absolutely amazing! Actually, it did not start out as well as I had hoped. The train station next to the Fontainebleau castle was closed, so we had to take a different train than planned and a random bus. It was also quite cold the whole day, until about a half hour before we left. We get there, and the castle was actually less than what I was expecting. That is NOT to say it wasn’t beautiful, but when we just went to the super extravagant castle of Versailles last week it seemed less grand.

However, throughout the day the castle continued to grow on me. We had a long lunch at the café there next to the castle, where I spent three euros on this tiny little ball of ice cream. Then we got to take a tour of the beautiful castle. It was so nice because there was almost no one there so we just to take our time to be able to see the whole castle. We just got audiotours and I always love being able to learn about everything that the rooms were used for. I loved this castle because it was a lot more “homie” than the other châteaus that I’ve been to, I mean as “homie” as a castle can be.

After the audiotour we almost left to catch the bus back, but then we decided to stay and hang out around in the gardens. The gardens were absolutely beautiful! We took many different pictures and there were a few beautiful statues in the gardens. There were so many beautiful flowers everywhere! It was all also around a nice pond and I just loved it so much. Then, the sun started to come out more when we were in the gardens which made it doubly amazing. We decided we’re going to try to come out again before we leave Paris.

À bientôt,
